ITALIAN RESTAURANTS

BIAGI'S (Location: 39 Upper Berkeley Street, London) £

Biagi's is a traditional italian restaurant near Marble Arch Station. It is quiet and serene and perfect for an escape from the usual hustle and bustle of London. Unfortunately there are only two vegetarian dishes available: a penne arribiata and ravioli with a creamy sauce. The safest option is to stick with the penne. But, it is worth going for the desserts, particularly the chocolate souffle which is by far one of the best I have ever tried.

FINO'S (Locations: ) £

Great family run restaurant/bar. They have a wide selection of starters, pizzas and pastas on offer. Be warned, the pizzas are massive at £9.95, so more than enough for 2 persons. I advise eating the pizzas, as the vegetarian pasta options do not compare particularly the arriabiata pasta which was huge but lacking in sauce. The complimentary peanuts and olives provide a nice touch.

PREZZO (Location: throughout the UK) £

There are pasta, pizza and risotto options including clarissa which is a vegetarian calzone (haven't yet found a veggie calzone to match). The penne arribiata is definitely a spicy option.

SEPORI (Location: 43 Drury Lane, London WC2B 5RT) ££

I came across this great Italian on Drury Lane. The menu has a variety of options to choose from in both their pizza and pasta selection. The pizzas are huge, so make sure you come with an empty tummy. The pasta choices are also varied from a tomato, mushroom and asparagus pasta or ravioli from their specials list. The ravioli was especially tasty as it wasn't too heavy and just the right portion. We tried the mushroom starter which was a bit of a disappointment. They also have a great selection of wines, which go perfect with the meal. What is a bit cheeky is they provide bread and olives on the table and charge you £1.50 per person for this. Although clearly marked on the menu, I think this should be complimentary if already on the table and charging £1.50 per individual is a bit rich.

Sepori stands out as one of the better Italian restaurants in London for vegetarian food (even if they do charge a £1.50 per person cover charge!).

SIGNOR SASSI (Location:  14 Knightsbridge Green, SW1X 7QL) £££

You may remember that Signor Sassi featured in an episode of the Apprentice, apparently it is one of Alan Sugar's favourite restaurants. It is a bustling Italian located in Knightsbridge. It is a bit of a tight squeeze and would recommend booking in advance as it does get busy. The staff are friendly and loud! It is clear that the waiters all enjoy themselves at Signor Sassi. The starters are divine (bruchetta and tomatoes was my favourite). Also their salad consisting of asparagus and artichokes came a close second. I managed to try all the vegetarian pastas and one to avoid was their pesto pasta. The other pasta dishes were average considering the price of them (not helped by the starters lifting the bar!)

This place is expensive. I am of the opinion that if you are paying a LOT for an Italian meal then it should be something extraordinary, which Signor Sassi isn't. I think I'll be getting my bout of pasta and pizza mix from somewhere cheaper!
